Course 4: Humanities and Cultural Literacy: Topics of Environmental Humanities Nature & Culture: Anthropocene Skills Seminar (ENST 375)

This course that I took last fall was a lot more challenging than I thought. Mainly, it consisted of long readings and projects. But all this work made me learn a lot within the environmental studies world. Throughout all of the discussions, I realized how much more complicated the environment is. With many other perspectives about society and looking at how art is a part of working with the environment. Who knew that those two could be connected. Throughout all the reading logs we had to do, I learned new concepts and ideas in these dense readings that only made my knowledge grow more. Learning about climate change in this class brought a whole new meaning when we connected poems and art to climate change. I've learned that how people express their feelings about climate change is different such as writing a poem or painting an art piece. Also, during discussions, hearing so many perspectives from my classmates about this difficult topic was so eye-opening because there were so many aspects I didn't consider before like environmental research should be working with climate artists or thinking about how nature is connected with our society. I’ve selected my final video presentation to reflect upon and I’ve got to say it turned out pretty good. For this project, my group was given a climate poem and had to interpret it through making a video. Doing this video was a lot of work like we had to edit our audio and video which took hours. We had to film in the rain which actually made it look better. We did have some challenges while making this video like having to re-record everything on a more expensive camera rather than our phones. But doing this project was very fun to do and I learned that even though we had challenges, we still were able to submit a good looking video.
