Portfolio Reflection
While doing the climate inquiry, I had learned a lot by immersing myself in varied disciplines that I didn’t expect to do. From doing intro to environmental studies to being part of a climate ribbon project was very eye-opening. Before I signed up to be an environmental studies major, I just thought that it would only involve the environment and nothing else. Well I was wrong and I’m glad I was. I was able to learn more about all the different aspects and perspectives of the environment which is to say the world can be very complicated. With all that I learned, I would want to go into a career that can somehow help the environment that involves those different aspects like art or science. For now, while a student at St. Mary’s, I’m currently looking for any environmental science internship but it has been very hard finding the right one. The only class that I feel didn’t really fit into the inquiry topic was intro to computer science. The class had nothing to do with climate but I still learned things I didn’t know before. Maybe another class would be a better fit for the mathematics requirement but I don’t know if any other math courses offered at St. Mary’s would involve the climate. However, completing the inquiry taught me that within the environmental studies field, that even though it may be difficult to agree upon things that might help the environment, something still needs to be done. This inquiry was the basis of learning and really got me prepared for taking higher level science courses.
